Ortega y Gasset
“Bertie… held that in fact human affairs were carried on after a most irrational fashion, but that the remedy was quite simple and easy, since all we had to do was to carry them on rationally.”

We are prepared to listen to all opposing points of view but for every person to have their own radio and television program and say whatever he wants [can we call it "internet"?], well that is chaos and not freedom

“Roger. Among the large headlines concerning Apollo this morning, there’s
one asking that you watch for a lovely girl with a big rabbit. An ancient legend
says a beautiful Chinese girl called Chang-o has been living there for 4000 years.
It seems she was banished to the Moon because she stole the pill of immortality from
her husband. You might also look for her companion, a large Chinese rabbit,
who is easy to spot since he is always standing on his hind feet in the shade of
a cinnamon tree. The name of the rabbit is not reported”

“Investments that are denominated in a given currency include money-market funds, bonds, mortgages, bank deposits, and other instruments. Most of these currency-based investments are thought of as “safe.” In truth they are among the most dangerous of assets. Over the past century these instruments have destroyed the purchasing power of investors in many countries, even as these holders continued to receive timely payments of interest and principal. This ugly result, moreover, will forever recur. Governments determine the ultimate value of money, and systemic forces will sometimes cause them to gravitate to policies that produce inflation. From time to time such policies spin out of control.”
Warren Buffett
“The transition from the world in which money is valuable because it is valuable to the one in which money is valuable because it is money could happen only because centuries of experience had established confidence that such money would be accepted. There are two commodities – paper money and gold – whose price permanently exceeds fundamental value…The writer Mark Boyle wrote a book describing a year lived without money. His was not a lifestyle I would enjoy. But the need to tip the bellboy is now the only obstacle to a life of luxury lived without cash.”

“In a study published last year titled “Life at Home in the Twenty-First Century,” researchers at U.C.L.A. observed 32 middle-class Los Angeles families and found that all of the mothers’ stress hormones spiked during the time they spent dealing with their belongings. Seventy-five percent of the families involved in the study couldn’t park their cars in their garages because they were too jammed with things. Apparently our supersize homes don’t provide space enough for all our possessions, as is evidenced by our country’s $22 billion personal storage industry.

Nowadays amateurs throughout the world have access to information that could put an expert to shame… what is important is to be able to understand systematically how they are tied together. New knowledge is born from conflict with past knowledge and the changes produced by the the daily accumulation of thinking. Will the future internet become a medium to make possible a dialogue with the knowledge of the past and establishing a new comprehension framework?
